A limited-overs cricket tournament has been a feature of Australian cricket since the 1969–70 season, currently known as the Marsh One-Day Cup since the 2019–20 season. It was initially a knockout tournament, the competition now involves a single round-robin followed by a finals series. As the name suggests, it is played in a 50-overs format and is administered by Cricket Australia. The first edition of the tournament was played back in 1969-70. Australian Cricket had dominated the Sport for almost two decades and the Marsh One Day Cup played an instrumental role in churning out the big stars of Australian cricket in the 50-overs format. Australia won their first World Cup in 1987 under the leadership of Allan Border. Subsequently, Steve Waugh took the team to 1999 World Cup glory while Ricky Ponting followed suit in 2003 and 2007. Earlier New Zealand also took part in the Marsh One Day Cup and they had finished at the top in the inaugural edition of the tournament. Currently, there are a total of six teams in the tournament. Western Australia are the defending champions as they had beaten New South Wales by 18 runs in the 2021-22 season. Brad Hodge is the highest run-getter of the competition with 5595 runs while James Hope is the leading wicket-taker of the domestic tournament with 135 scalps.
